The imposing exterior of the Grand Hotel is one of the most iconic and recognisable sights in Yorkshire.

It is not the hotel's historic architectural features however, but what is on offer inside that the venue's new management team is hoping will entice local people back through its doors.

A £9.7million renovation of the Grand is now in its final stages, meaning that the hotel's once timeworn surroundings have been restored to their former glory, making it one of the most attractive and versatile venues in Scarborough.

The lofty setting is belied by the down-to-earth prices which represent some of the best value that the town has to offer - whether you are looking to hold a conference, entertain your wedding guests, enjoy a hearty meal, or simply have a drink and relax in front of some good old-fashioned entertainment.

You will do well to find better value Sunday lunches than the Grand's carvery-style dinners, which are on offer at £12 for two.
There is also a daily happy hour between 11am-7pm, when as well as spectacular views from the hotel bar you will find pints priced at a refreshing £2 each and tea and coffee also at reduced prices.

Tea dances have recently been reintroduced in the hotel's Palm Court Ballroom, when Scarborough residents are encouraged to roll back the years and enjoy a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Grand Hotel general manager David Aylott said: "What we want to do is get people from Scarborough through our doors to have a fresh look at what we are now offering. Then they can make up their own minds. "Many assume that as a hotel we only provide services to those that come from outside the area, but nothing could be further from the truth.
"We see ourselves as a major part of the local community and there is plenty on offer for Scarborians."

As well as the offering a series of services to occupy your leisure time, the Grand also gives local businesses the opportunity to entertain their corporate clients or hold conferences. A variety of rooms are available, all at a reasonable cost. For those tying the knot, the Grand serves as a impressive but practical wedding venue, ideally located but no less spectacular than settings that will cost you twice the price.

In 2010 only, you will be able to seat 50 guests before your wedding and entertain 100 at an evening reception for a special price of £999.

Mr Aylott added: "Our fabulous terrace and stunning views of the South Bay mean that in the summer the Grand is potentially the best venue in the town who could want a better backdrop for their big day?

"We have two restaurants, offer nightly entertainment and regularly entertain over 500 guests. I think we have a fantastic venue and people in Scarborough are always welcome to pop in and have a look around.

"When people see our magnificent building they often think they're going to be paying top whack, but we actually offer a relaxed and informal venue where everyone is welcome."
